With the Answer Buttons element, visitors answer a question by just clicking a simple button.
The element can act as a micro-commitment, where a simple question both collects data you can use for your email marketing and encourages visitors to sign up with their email in a popup campaign.
You'll often see the answer buttons in a multi-step campaign flow, where the visitor picks an answer and moves straight to the next form step, whether that's signing up with their email, phone number, etc.
How to add Answer Buttons
1. To get started, select either a Collect Email Addresses or Connect with Visitors template.
2. In the design step, find the Answer Buttons element under Form elements and drag it into your campaign.
💡 Tip: Press 'Add step' and move your new step to the front to make a multi-step campaign with the answer buttons as the very first thing.
3. The element comes with a text element and four buttons. Click any button to edit the text.
4. Open the sidebar to add or remove buttons, adjust the styling and hover colors, and set the values you want to send to your email platform. You need at least 2 answer options.
How the answer buttons behave
The behavior depends on what else is on the step:
Answer Buttons is the only input field on the step
Clicking a button submits the answer and takes the visitor to the next step. No submit button needed.
This is what makes it perfect as the opening question in a flow, as it's quick and easy for visitors to engage with.
The step has other form inputs too (like name, email, or a comment field)
The answer buttons work just like radio buttons. Clicking registers the selection and the button changes to the selected color, so the visitor can see what they picked. They can change their mind, as clicking a different button deselects the first one.
The answer is submitted together with the rest of the form fields when the visitor clicks the submit button.
💡 Good to know: The submit button will be added automatically if there are input fields visible in the same form step. If you delete the other form fields again, the submit button disappears.
Answers & values
In the Answers & Values section, you can see each button's answer and what value is sent to your email platform when a visitor clicks it. This works the same way as values on radio buttons.
Here you can also:
- Add or delete answer options (minimum 2)
- Set the field as required
💡 Tip: Change the text on the answer buttons by clicking on the button element. Keep the text short and visitor-friendly ("For him", "For her"), and use the value field for whatever works best in your email platform ("mens", "womens"). Your visitors see the button text and your segments get clean data.
Collecting the data
To pass the answers to your email platform, go to the Integration step and map the Answer Buttons field, just like you would with any other form field. Now you can use the answers for segmentation in your email flows.
Don't collect email addresses in your answer button campaign? You can always generate a CSV file directly from your Sleeknote dashboard to easily see what button visitors clicked on, without having them submit their email address.
